Something that is active at night.
Although about 60% of all owls are nocturnal, the rest are diurnal (active during the day) or crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk). Their eyes have adapted over time to help them to see at night but like humans they need some light to see, when it is completely dark they can see nothing!
Most species of frogs are nocturnal, but many others are diurnal. This nocturnal beauty spends most of his days curled up sleeping on leaves and its leaf-green colour camouflages well with the rainforest and this protects them against hungry predators.
Most bats are nocturnal. They fly and forage for their food (bugs) at night. This means that they need safe places to sleep during the day. Caves provide the kind of protected shelter in which bats can thrive
Two-toed sloths are completely nocturnal whereas three-toed sloths are both nocturnal and diurnal. Sloths spend so much time sleeping in trees that the moss that grows on trees also grows on their fur! OMG to be a sloth :)
My family is strangely active at night although Mom is a bit of a mystery as she never seems to sleep. I like the stillness of the night, midnight feasts and I love looking out across London at night. During the school week I'm FORCED to go to bed early but when Friday comes around it's NIGHT, NIGHT, NIGHT for me :)
